Auditions were held for a witch to fill a vacancy at Wookey Hole Caves, near Wells, in Somerset

The tourist attraction was looking for a new witch to teach visitors about witchcraft and magic after its previous employee retired

…they had one minute in which to convince the judges that they were the right witch for the job…

The position comes with a salary of £50,000 pro rata

Carla Calamity, whose real name is Carole Bohanan, won the hearts of the judges by throwing sweet snakes into the audience at her audition for the job of the Wookey Witch

Carla Calamity, whose real name is Carole Bohanan, won the job of the Wookey Witch. Miss Calamity, a single estate agent from Shepton Mallet, Somerset, beat the competition by singing a little ditty about the legend of the Wookey Witch and throwing sweet snakes into the audience

Legend has it that the caves were home to the Wookey Witch who was turned to stone by Father Bernard who had been appointed by the Abbott of Glastonbury to rid villagers of her curse

Wookey Hole said it received 23 letters of complaint from church or religious groups about the position

The job is during school holidays and at weekends
